Road Ready Drink Driving Courses

In the ACT, it is a requirement for people convicted of drink or drug driving to complete a drink driving course or drug awareness program. These courses are approved by the road transport authority and aim to increase awareness about the effects of alcohol and drugs, including their effects on driving and health.

The Road Ready Centre offers 2 different programs depending on the seriousness of the offense:

Think Ahead Course:

The ‘Think Ahead Course’ is a 2 hour course specifically designed for ACT drivers who have been caught drink driving for the first time and at a lower threshold.

You are eligible to attend the Think Ahead course only if you were:

  1. convicted or found guilty of driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) below 0.08 AND
  2. it is the first time that you have been convicted or found guilty of a disqualifying offence under the Road Transport (Alcohol and Drugs) Act 1977.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you must attend the ‘kNOw the Risk Course‘.

kNOw the Risk Course:

The ‘kNOw the Risk’ course is a 6 hour program divided over 2 sessions for ACT drivers who have been caught drink driving with higher blood alcohol or multiple times.

You are eligible to attend the kNOw the Risk course only if:

  1. convicted or found guilty of driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above 0.08 OR
  2. it is NOT the first time that you have been convicted or found guilty of a disqualifying offence under the Road Transport (Alcohol and Drugs) Act 1977.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you must attend the ‘Think Ahead Course‘.
